The rules

Mosaic pattern

One shape

A right triangle flush in the corner, long edge scooped slightly concave. The organic feeling comes from the scoop, not from wobble.

One composition

One flat wedge in a top corner. One two-tone wedge in the opposite bottom corner, darker tone in the corner, lighter tone banding outside. Two per page.

Clear of the logo and the type

A wedge never touches the wordmark, body copy, footers, or tables. It sits in the margin. The full rules are on the Mosaic pattern page.

Don't

Don't go flatA straight edge loses the hand-cut quality. Keep the scoop.
Don't bulge outwardA convex curve turns the triangle into a pie slice.
Don't crowd the pageTwo wedges, not four. Corners frame the page. They aren't the pattern.
Don't crowd the logoIf a wedge touches the wordmark, move it or shrink it.

Where these are used

Every Word and PowerPoint template ships with a pair built in. The four presets above are what those files use, so a new piece starts from the closest one and stays in family.
