The wordmark, its short forms, and the monogram
Draft for review · rules proposed by Hyperakt, Sep 2026
The logo is a wordmark. "San Antonio" sits above "Area Foundation" in magenta and navy: the place first, the institution beneath it, steady.
There is no separate symbol. The "A" of "Area" carries a small flourish in its crossbar, and that letter doubles as the monogram when a compact mark is needed. Every other form in the family is a shortening of the full name, following the naming ladder.
Use the full wordmark wherever the organization is introduced. Reach for a shorter form only when space is genuinely constrained or the audience already knows who is speaking.
The family
Seven marksOne wordmark, four shortened lockups, and the monogram. Each comes in navy and magenta for light grounds, cream and magenta for navy, all-cream for color, and black or white for one-color reproduction.
When to use which
- Wordmark. The default. Website header, stationery, presentations, signage, anything where the Foundation is introducing itself. Use it at least once in every piece.
- SA Area Foundation. Wide, short spaces where the full stack won't fit: email footers, sponsor rows, event banners with many partners. "SA" reads instantly in San Antonio; outside the region, prefer the wordmark.
- Area Foundation. Internal materials and follow-on pages where the full name has already appeared. This is the naming ladder made visible: full name first, shortened after.
- Two-line forms. Square-ish spaces: social tiles, badges, the corner of a one-pager.
- Monogram. Social avatars, favicons, app icons, enamel pins, apparel, and pattern accents. It never replaces the wordmark in a formal introduction.
- Only one mark per surface. Don't pair the monogram with the wordmark on the same panel; choose the one the space calls for.
Color versions
Four setsThe magenta in "San Antonio" is #F023A5 and the navy is #0E3049 in every file. Never substitute another pairing.
Clear space
ProposedKeep a margin of at least one "A" on every side: the height of the capital A in "Area." Nothing else, no type, no photo edge, no other logo, enters that zone.

The same rule scales with the mark: for the monogram, one "A" is the monogram's own height. More space is always fine.
Minimum sizes
ProposedBelow these sizes the small "San Antonio" line loses legibility. When space is tighter, step down the family rather than shrinking the wordmark.
| Mark | Screen | At minimum | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wordmark | 140 px wide | 1.25 in / 32 mm | |
| SA Area Foundation, one line | 120 px wide | 1 in / 25 mm | |
| Area Foundation, one line | 100 px wide | 0.85 in / 22 mm | |
| Two-line forms | 72 px wide | 0.6 in / 15 mm | |
| Monogram | 24 px tall | 0.25 in / 6 mm |
